Melvin Norman Kenneth Pinksen was born August 9th, 1946 to Cecil and Mary Pinksen. At a very young age, Melvin worked at the sawmill with his dad and brothers. In 1969 he met Hilda at her sister's wedding and he would not let her go. "I'm going too, wherever you go, I'm going." They were married on August 5th, 1970. Together they shared an unconditional love for nearly 55 years that was not like any other. They had five children Cathy, Melinda (Peter), Lorie (Ross), Lorna (Bill) and Lorne (Cayleigh)
Melvin had a career in cooking and logging in 1960 he began this career and continued until 2001 when he was diagnosed with Parkinson. A man with very few words without complaining and was not afraid to die. He accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior 69 years ago. He was committed to serving Christ his whole life, raising a family to do the same, providing a firm foundation.
Melvin was well known in the community he was born and raised in, where he became a strong volunteer. Melvin enjoyed berry picking, rabbit catching, building snow shoes, cutting wood, walking and so much more. He loved to volunteer and serve in the church community where he was a Star Stewart serving as a Deacon & member for 30 plus years with countless hours for every pastoral team that was stationed at Sop's Arm Pentecostal Assembly.
Melvin was very proud of his family and travelled a few times to Ontario and Alberta after he retired, to spend time with them and they're amazing grandchildren. Melvin went to his eternal home on May 24th, 2025 at 11:04pm, left with cherished memories are is wife, Hilda, his children Cathy, Melinda (Peter), Lorie (Ross) and Lorne (Cayleigh). His grandchildren Veronica, Hannah, Brandon, Brayden, Hailey, Rj, Brooklynn and Caylynn. Brothers Dave Pinksen (Verna), Garry Pinksen (predeceased Joan), Max Pinksen (predeceased Lorraine), Sister Olive Legge, Dorothy White (predeceased Chesley) and Donna Gilley (Ivan); Sisters in law Margaret Hamlyn, Neta Price (Norman), Ina Janes (Glenn) and a number of nieces and nephews.
Melvin was predeceased by his daughter Lorna, parents Cecil and Mary Pinksen, Parents in law Clarence and Verna Hamlyn. Brothers Randy Pinksen (Marilyn) and Garfield Pinksen (Florence), Brothers in law Wilson Hamlyn (Marie), Garfiled Hamlyn (Anne); sister in laws Dorothy Bishop-Locke (Clarence)
The family would like to say a very special thank you to the Palliative Care unit located at the Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, those who cared for him during the last two weeks. Additionally, all the friends and family that supported them through his journey.
Visitation at Sop's Arm Pentecostal Church on Tuesday May 27 from 7-9pm. Funeral service on Wednesday May 28 at 10:30am with Pastor Terry Grimes Officiating. Interment at Sop's Arm Pentecostal Cemetery.
